Right from the start there is a big difference, the Aspen Series is an outdoor boiler and the Hydronic Wood Boiler is an indoor boiler. So your choice begins right from the start. Indoor or Outdoor? But don’t base your decision based solely on the location of the boiler. Let’s start with the Specifications of each boiler and see which is rated better.

The Aspen Series Outdoor Boiler is a residential boiler and they have are designed to save you about 70% of your heating bill. One reason for that is the Aspen is said to use about 50% less wood than other Wood Boilers. The Aspen Series Wood Boiler runs clean and burns through 99.9% of the wood that you put in. This leaves no room for ashes or smoke to pollute the environment.

You can use the Aspen Series Outdoor Wood Boiler for Baseboard, Radiant or Forced Air heating Systems. The Aspen Series has a Digital Control Panel, perfect for the homeowner to be able to see how the boiler is operating and if they are any problems with the unit. The Aspen has a Built In Exhaust Curtain, which will help the smoke from the wood to flow through the standard exhaust. It basically is a way to control the flow of smoke.

There are 2 models available in the Aspen Series one is rated for 100,000 BTUH and can heat up to 7,000 square feet and the second is rated for 230,000 BTUH and can heat up to 12,000 square feet. These ratings are based at an 8-hour Output capacity. The Aspen has a limited warranty of 10 years in internal furnace parts and a 1-year warranty on other parts.

The Hydronic Wood Boiler is a residential application like the Aspen Series but this boiler is an indoor boiler.

picture_of_hydronic_wood_boilerThe Hydronic Wood Boiler has a Combustion Efficiency rating at 100% and a Thermal efficiency rating of 85%. This unit has a temperature rating between 1800 and 2000 degrees. Units like the Aspen have a capacity for around 1100 degrees and higher.

The wood boiler is made from a high quality steel construction. The Firebox is also constructed from steel and is surrounded by a jacket of water. The water jacket is there for 2 reasons, the first is to help the boiler transfer the heat from the firebox to the heating system you have and the second reason is that it helps keep the fire at a lower temperature to prevent unnecessary burning which would use more energy and cost you more money.

The Hydronic Wood Boiler has 2 Aquastats, one is used to control the operation of the boiler and the second is place on the interface of the boiler. The boiler has a Heat Exchanger that is charged with a solution called Propylene Glycol. This solution prevents corrosion and freezing of the boiler.

There are 3 different models of the Hydronic Wood Boiler. The first unit has a BTUH of 100,000 and a heating capacity for up to 4,000 square feet. The second model has a 200,000 BTUH and an 8,000 square foot heating capacity and the third has a 300,000 BTUH and a heating capacity of 12,000 square feet.

These units have a 10-year limited warranty on the internal furnace parts and a 1-year warranty on all other components.
