Intro To Commercial Heating

Basically without any long- winded answer, Commercial Heating is like Residential heating but on a much larger scale.

When plumbers are installing residential heating units they can be carried in either by hand or by hand truck but commercial heating units have to be carried in with cranes, lifts or 2 more people.

Another difference in commercial heating vs. residential heating is that as a homeowner you can fix most repairs yourself. But as a commercial business owner you have to call in the HVAC team to troubleshoot and fix the problem.

Commercial heating can be associated with schools, hospitals, industrial buildings and shopping malls to name just a few.

Have you ever seen commercial heating system? Everything is huge, the ventilation systems, the boilers and the exhaust fans.

Commercial heating requires much more experience than the residential heating does. Many commercial heating systems are either in huge basements, on the side of the buildings or on rooftops. A lot of space is needed for commercial heating systems; there are no real compact units like you see in residential. Sometimes the units are so big that they need several hundred feet to be installed.

Due to the fact that the commercial applications are bigger, more can actually go wrong with the units. There are thousands of companies in the United States that specialize in commercial heating. Without these companies, if something went wrong a huge amount of people would be cold or there would be no hot water. With residential problems only a handful of people are inconvenienced for a bit. Think residential but on a larger scale.

Another big difference in commercial heating and residential is that you as a homeowner can go to the local Home Depot or the local plumbing supply store and pick up a part. But for commercial applications, these stores won’t do. It is companies such as Weil McLain, Peerless and A.O Smith as well as local HVAC companies can supply the parts you need.

No repair for commercial heating systems is going to be very cheap. Some parts like boilers and pumps have been with the heating system since the beginning and if one of those parts go and the company is out of business, you as a building owner have to think about replacing the units, which can be thousands of dollars.

There is a lot to commercial heating that most people ever thought of. The systems are more intricate and parts are not always accessible as they would be on a residential boiler or heating system. But the power that goes into the commercial heating system is something to be amazed by.
