So if your sink is clogged it could be just something jamming up the P-trap under your sink. The P-Trap is inline with the sink drain and when it gets clogged water will not go through it causing the sink water to back up.

1. Make sure you drain sink. If clogged use a cup or bucket to drain.

2. Loosed P-trap nuts with your hands or channel lock pilers.

3. Once the nuts are loosened. Remove trap and clean all debris out.

Why Does My Sink Have A P-Trap?

The bathroom sink, kitchen sink and even your washing  has a p-trap for two main reasons that you may not know.

The first reason is to prevent the sewer gases from coming back up into the sink and coming into your home which will cause a realy bad smell.

The second reason is to prevent rats from coming up through the sewers into your home. This widly was a problem in NYC years ago.

Tools you Will Need To Remove The P-Trap

You will need some basic hand tools to remove the P-Trap under your sink.

Channel Locks Or Strap Wrench 

Most of the time you will be able to loose the nuts on the P-Trap with your hands but sometimes you will need channel locks, or a strap wranch if yoiu have one.
